Concerts at Augustana College on Tuesday, September 19 (7 PM) and Sunday, November 19 (2 PM) at Wallenberg Hall. Free and open to the Public.
“Tikkun” is a musical trio of Augustana College professors, whose members include Deborah Dakin on viola, Janina Ehrlich on cello, and Robert Elfline on piano. Tikkun is the Hebrew word for fixing/rectification. The mission of Tikkun is to heal the world through music, by seeking to present audiences with programs that comfort the soul and challenge the mind.
This program includes works by two Jewish composers – Robert Kahn (1865-1951) and Gerald Cohen (living). Kahn’s Serenade is a beautiful example of his love of chamber music and his affinity to Johannes Brahms. He had a distinguished career as a composer and teacher at the Berlin Conservatory of Music and the Academy of Art until 1933 when the Nazis forced his resignation. Cohen lives in New York City where he composes and has been the cantor at Shaarei Tikvah Congregation in Scarsdale for 30 years.
A second concert will be held at Wallenberg Hall at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 19, which includes Janina Ehrlich from Tikkun on cello, Kara Bancks on clairinet and Charles Schmidt on piano. This second concert includes music by Ludwig van Beethoven and Alexander Zemlinsky.
